The Sun on 15 July 2012 Home

These pictures were taken three days after those shown here and show the same sunspots plus two more that were hardly evident then.

The whole Sun.  If you compare this picture with that taken 3 days ago you will see how the Sun has rotated in the three days.  Also if you look carefully, you will see that the spots have all changed, but that the new ones, 11522 and 11523, have not developed much.  Close-up pictures are below.

Date and Time: 15 July 2012 08:30 UT
Camera: DMK 21AF04
Telescope: 270 mm SLR
Capture: ICCapture. Exposure 1/2488", gain 542, 3382 frames
Processing: Registax6. 150 frames stacked. Wavelets 1-2=10.

Sunspot group 11520.  This is group 11520, visible without a telescope.  The scale is larger than that shown previously, because I used my LX200 in stead of my ETX125.  Click on the picture to see a mosaic of this picture and the one below.

Date and Time: 12 July 2012 08:55 UT
Camera: DMK 21AF04
Telescope: LX200-10 with Astronomik CLS filter
Capture: ICCapture. Exposure 1/1241", gain 584, 3440 frames
Processing: Registax6. 4 alignment points, 150 frames stacked per alignment point. Histogram 30-190, Gaussian wavelets Scheme 2

Sunspot groups 11521 and 11519.  The scale is larger than that shown previously, because I used my LX200 in stead of my ETX125.  Even so, spot 11521 has developed considerably since the earlier picture.  Click on the picture to see a mosaic of this picture and the one above.

Processing: Registax6. 4 alignment points, 150 frames stacked per alignment point. Histogram 30-190, Gaussian wavelets Scheme 2

Sunspot groups 11522.  This spot appeared only four days ago, and it remains a pretty weak affair.  I have had to enhance the picture quite a lot to show it clearly.

Sunspot groups 11523.  This spot appeared only four days ago, and it remains a pretty weak affair.  I have had to enhance the picture quite a lot to show it clearly.
