The Sun on 13 November 2011 Home

The whole Sun.  Group 11339 is the largest group seen for some years, but in this picture it is too near the limb to see clearly.  There are faint rings around the darker sunspots;  these are artefacts of the wavelet processing that the dering procedure did not remove completely.

Date and Time: 13 November 2011 12:14 UT
Camera: DMK 21AF04
Telescope: 270 mm SLR
Capture: ICCapture. Exposure 1/2000", gain 460, 3405 frames
Processing: Registax5. 100 frames stacked. Wavelets 1-2=10, dering bright 200.

All the pictures below are at the same scale.
Sunspot group 11339.  This is a much larger group than may appear here.  It is the largest spot that has been seen for many years.  Sadly I was unable to get pictures when it was crossing the middle of the Sun because of continuous cloud for the last two weeks.  Here it is foreshortened by being so close to the limb.
