NGC 5907  The Splinter or Knife Edge GalaxyHome

NGC 5907, in the constellation of Draco, is a spiral galaxy seen edge on.  However it has only a very small central bulge (compare NGC 4565) giving it a very flat appearance.  It was discovered by William Herschel in 1788 and is the second-largest galaxy of the NGC-5866 group.  A supernova was observered in it on 16 February 1940.
