NGC4565, Caldwell 38.  Home

NGC4565, in the constellation of Coma Berenices, is a typical, spiral galaxy seen almost edge on.  The central bulge is well displayed and the plane of the disc is seen as a dark band across the image.  This is caused by dust in the plane of the disc blocking the light from the stars there.

Camera: Modified Vesta 675K
Telescope: LX200 with 0.33 focal reducer
Capture: K3CCDTools. High gamma, 30", 95% gain
Processing: K3CCDTools. 73 frames stacked, histogram 10-240
    Registax. Gamma as below.
    PhotoImpact. Gaussian blur 3
This picture was taken with the same optics as the picture above, but with my recently-aquired MX716 camera.  This camera has a larger chip than the Vesta and so shows a wider field of view making the image smaller.  The picture is smaller too because I left the telescope unattended and unguided, and the image drifted quite a bit in the 2 hours of exposure.
