The Bald Eagle

The Bald Eagle is the New-World counterpart of the European White-tailed Sea Eagle.  It is widespread throughout North America from Alaska and Canada to northern Mexico wherever stretches of open water give it a ready supply of food.  It feeds mainly on fish but is an opportunistic feeder and will take water birds, rabbits, hares, ground squirrels, and even young deer.  Females can have wingspans up to 2.3 metres and weigh up to 6 kg.  Males are about 25% smaller.
