As its name implies, the African Fish Eagle feeds mainly on fish but it will take a wide range of other prey such as waterfowl, turtles, baby crocodiles, frogs, and has been known to take monkeys. It is found throughout sub-Saharan Africa wherever large bodies of open water and rivers are found. They are also found around the coasts, taking fish from the sea. Females can have a wingspan of 2.4 metres and weigh 3.6 kg. Males are a little smaller, as is usual for raptors.
