Macrobius

This is an area just to the north-west of Mare Crisium. Macrobius is a circular formation 66 Km in diameter. It is very deep at 3,700 metres and the shadow of the western wall can be seen in this picture.  Notice the dip in the shadow that corresponds to a small crater on the rim.   This is a very rugged part of the Moon and not all the features have names. The scale markers are approximately 50 Km north and east and apply at Macrobius. The picture was taken with a ToUcam attached to my LX200 with a X2 lens attached on 14th September 2003, when the Moon was 17.8 days old.
