This picture was made from pictures taken with an Hα filter, having 10 exposures each of 1 and 2 minutes, and 5 of 5 minutes. Each exposure was enhanced by subtraction of a dark frame and non-linear stretch in star-mx7, and then each set was stacked, the gamma increased to 1.5 and the histogram trimmed in RegiStax, which was then used to stack the three exposures.
Date and Time: 9th December 2010 00:11 to 01:20 UT
Camera: MX716
Telescope: LX200 with 0.33 focal reducer and Hα filter
Capture: star_mx7. 10 frames at 60 and 120 seconds, and 5 frames at 300 seconds exposure
Processing: star_mx7. Dark subtraction, non-linear stretch 25, background.
Registax. Stacked 10 frames at each exposure (4 at 300 sec), gamma 1.5, histogram as appropriate. The three resulting pictures were then stacked together. |

Here is the Flame Nebula in false colours. It was made from three pictures taken through Hα, OIII, and SII filters. The Hα was assigned to red, the OIII to green, and the SII to blue. What is interesting, but may not be that obvious in the coloured picture, is that the main nebula contains much more blue than green, implying more emission from Sulphur than from Oxygen. In my limited experience, this is unusual. Click on the image to see the individual pictures.
Date and Time: 16th December 2010 23:12 to 23:46 UT
Camera: MX716
Telescope: LX200 with 0.33 focal reducer and Hα, OIII, and SII filters.
Capture: star_mx7. Five frames at each wavelength, exposure 120 seconds.
Processing: star_mx7. Dark subtraction, non-linear stretch 25, background.
Registax. Stacked 5 frames at each wavelength and those assembled into the coloured picture and histogram stretched 0-100. |
