M42 with an ST80, 8th and 9th February 2006Home

This is my first attempt at M42 using my "new" ST80 mounted on my LX200.  I had only just finished the piggy-back mount and it was all a bit hit and miss but, for a first attempt, has turned out reasonably well.  The picture is a combination of images made with exposures of 1/25th, 1, 2.5, 5, 10, and 20 seconds using my modified Toucam 840K.
If the picture is rather too dark on your monitor, move your mouse over the image to see one with the gamma increased to 1.5.  M43 should be visible.

Date and Time 8th February 2006 20:21 to 20:40 UT
Camera Modified ToUcam 840K

Processing K3CCDTools. Each avi stacked and saved in bmp format.
Registax. Adjustment of the gamma curve.
Neat Image. Removal of noise.
This was taken the day after the one above.  I don't think the blue tinge is real; I think maybe I had the colour-balance in the camera not quite right.  But the detail in the central part of the nebula is clearer in this picture.  It is a combination of images made with exposures of 1/25th, 1/33rd, 1, 1.5, 3, 5, 10, and 20 seconds using my modified Toucam 840K.
If the picture is rather too dark on your monitor, move your mouse over the image to see one with the gamma increased to 1.5.  M43 should be visible.
